In Loving Memory
A beautiful Orchid has been taken from the earthly garden of beautiful flowers and placed among the beautiful Orchids in God's heavenly garden. (Sis. Walls favorite flower)
Sis Delia Walls, PWGM on Christmas Day joined her beloved husband, William "Cat" Walls in the heavenly home he has so lovingly been waiting to share with her. What a wonderful Christmas present for "Cat".
Sis. Walls served Eureka Grand Chapter, OES, State of Illinois as Worthy Grand Matron 1984-l985, serving with Bro Clyde W. Cooper, Sr.
Before becoming WGM, Sis. Walls was Grand Lecturer during the administration of Sis. Bessie L. Howard, WGM and Bro Lawrence Williams, WGP - 1976-77.
A beautiful, caring person, Sis. Walls, along with the Late MW Bro Levi L. Rose, Grand Master initiated the Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day program to feed the homeless and less fortunate.
Sis. Walls, believing these two days were the most lonely days for persons without, wanted to do something special for them on these days, and as a Fraternity believed we could share a few hours of our time on Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day with those not as fortunate as we.
On Thanksgiving Day and on Christmas Day, nursing home residents in the areas surrounding the Masonic Temple who could travel were bused to the Masonic Temple and those unable to travel dinner was taken to them. The Masonic Temple was open to all in need.
The Worthy Matrons, Worthy Patrons and Worshipful Masters served as hostess and host; Associate Matrons, Conductresses, Associate Conductresses and Warders were the workers and servers.
Bro William L Norman (not yet Worthy Grand Patron ) and committee worked the kitchen preparing the meats (a function he still does).
The brothers still serve Thanksgiving Dinner on Thanksgiving Day; the sisters recently began serving Christmas Dinner, the week before Christmas.
Bro. and Sis. Walls were chartered members of Pride of Harmony Chapter #144 and also PMAM and PMWJ of Miriam Court #62.
When their health began to fail Bro. and Sis. Walls, their daughter moved them to Atlanta, GA (her home).
"I've had so much of human love and human touch, I would not trade my lot in life for anyone's I know. I've glimpsed through clouds of darkest hue, a glorious sight of all things true. With silver lining that leads me on towards life's sunset with my work well done."
Christmas Day 2006 - Cat and Delia together again.
